Book Nook - The Bible According to Christian Nationalists: Exploiting Scripture for Political Power

Chalice Press is thrilled to announce that The Bible According to Christian Nationalists: Exploiting Scripture for Political Power by Brian Kaylor has received the highest possible recognition from the Religion Communicators Council (RCC). The book was named "Best in Show," the top honor reserved for the single most outstanding entry of the year among twelve finalists.

In addition to the Best in Show title, the book won the non-fiction adult book category and was named Best in Class for Books. This marks the second consecutive year Kaylor collected a "Best in Class" win; his previous book, Baptizing America: How Mainline Protestants Helped Build Christian Nationalism (co-authored with Beau Underwood), earned the same distinction last year.

“Brian Kaylor is an insightful, engaging writer who knows his material and how to make it resonate with the reader,” said Brad Lyons, president and publisher at Chalice Press. “Brian recognizes the many ways Christian Nationalism has seeped into our churches and, more recently, our governmental agencies—and he’s sounding the alarm we all need to hear. We’re grateful to be partners with Brian and to support Word&Way in their quality journalism”.

The RCC, founded in 1929, is an association of faith-based professionals working in journalism, public relations, and advertising. The Best in Show award is part of RCC's DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards recognizing excellence in religious communications and public relations.

Kaylor expressed both surprise and gratitude regarding the sweep of awards. “Already blown away by winning the book award for the second year in a row, I was stunned by the Best in Show honor,” Kaylor said. “This recognition is encouraging and humbling. And I hope it will inspire more people to check out the book, which is unfortunately much-needed in this moment as our sacred texts are regularly being co-opted and misused”.

Beyond his success with Chalice Press, Kaylor’s leadership at Word&Way also resulted in top honors for journalism and specialized writing, further cementing his role as a leading voice in religious media.

The Bible According to Christian Nationalists was published by Chalice Press, the leading progressive Christian publisher of books that challenge and inspire communities of faith, and the publishing house of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
